Teaching and outreach

NSF Broadening Participation in Biology Workshops

Throughout central California, I work with local non-profits and schools to create custom workshops for K-12 students to introduce subjects in ecology and conservation research, with the goal to broaden participation of underrepresented students in biology.

Girls in science and technology

I co-designed a workshop for GiST, where I teach and engage middle school aged girls with hands on activities related to my research. We cover topics in ornithology, soundscape ecology, and conservation.

Citizen science and Public talks

I encourage citizen scientists to participate in data collection, and trained volunteers to identify birds and contribute point counts to the Urban Long-Term Research Area - Fresno And Clovis Ecosocial Study. I also worked with local organizations (ex. Audubon, Clovis Botanical Society, USDA Forest Service) to disseminate research results and inform the public about their local flora and fauna.

Recording workshopS

I created a Recording Workshop to share my knowledge of bioacoustics, types of equipment and purposes, and techniques for getting a great wildlife recording for my peers and colleagues at Tulane University.

I also led a similar section at the Acoustics in Ecology Workshop in Grand Teton National Park.
